The corporate pop music machine sucks in wide-eyed rival wannabes Kan and Shingo and spits out the bedazzled and fabulous ‘Stardust Brothers’. Propelled to instant fame, their catchy lyrics soon take on a new meaning ‘once you reach No. 1, you can only go down’. At only 23, director Macoto Tezka (son of manga and anime legend Osamu Tezuka) crafted the film around an existing soundtrack. Resurrected from obscurity, this 8mm cult classic is an invitation to embrace the cringe and creativity, marvel at low budget 80s special effects and costuming, and tally the endless celebrity cameos.
