French film-maker Jacques Tati, the choreographer of the charming comical ballet that is Playtime, casts himself as the endearingly clumsy Monsieur Hulot wandering through modernist Paris, in this the third movie in Tati's series of comedies in which he stars as the accident-prone chaos magnet.
Hulot and a group of American tourists travel through Paris. While he struggles to keep an appointment, they search for the romantic Paris of old, and at the same time, a nightclub/restaurant prepares its opening night, but it's still under construction. Amid the babble of English, French and German tourists, Hulot tries to reconcile the old-fashioned ways with the confusion of the encroaching age of technology. Tati's satirical view of modern city life was played out entirely on a vast mobile set, known as `Tativille', just outside Paris.
