Seduction, glamour, corruption, drugs and raucous poolside parties: the life and times of scandal-plagued Silvio Berlusconi have long-demanded a screen depiction, and who else to deliver it than Paolo Sorrentino, Academy Award-winning director of The Great Beauty and The Young Pope.
Sorrentino returns to cinema in spectacular fashion with this dazzling, topical and no-holds-barred look at life in Italy under the glistening eye of modern Europe’s most infamous politician.
"Loro", in two parts, is a period movie that chronicles events which likely happened in Italy between 2006 and 2010. "Loro" suggests, in portraits and glimpses of a composite constellation of characters, a moment in history which can be described as amoral, debauched, and yet extraordinarily alive.
Additionally, "Loro" tells the story of the people who, moved by ambition, admiration, affection, curiosity, and personal interests, orbit around the walking paradise that is the man named Silvio Berlusconi.
