Steelers: The World's First Gay Rugby Club

Saturday, November 14 at 4:30PM & Sunday, November 15 at 4:30PM

Being gay and playing sport doesn't usually mix-especially one as tough as rugby, right? Wrong. Steelers is a confronting and emotional, yet heartwarming story about the world's first gay rugby club that started in London in 1995. Told through the eyes of an Australian reporter who moved to the UK to escape depression, we learn that sometimes happiness can be found where you least expect.

In the documentary, narrated by Eammon Ashton-Atkinson, we follow 3 characters as the club competes against 60 other gay teams in the Bingham Cup - the World Cup of gay rugby. We meet the gay female coach from Wales fighting misogyny, the Birmingham rugby fanatic battling his own demons after recently coming out, and the drag queen who teaches us to live as the person we truly are.
