FilmInk and Arcadia presents the Premiere Screening of First Girl I Loved at 6.30pm on Monday May 8th.
The pangs of first love are given a fresh spin in this feature from director Kerem Sanga. Anne (played by Dylan Gelula from Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt) is your typical angst ridden teen misfit, who is more interested in bike riding and hanging with best friend Cliff, than fitting in with her cliquey classmates. Her polar opposite is the athletic and popular Sasha (Brianna Hildebrand from Deadpool) who Anne becomes smitten with when she photographs her for the school yearbook.
When the crush is surprisingly reciprocated the two girls’ wildly different worlds implode. Told with an original flair First Girl I Loved won the NEXT Audience Award at the 2016 Sundance International Film Festival and is a bold addition to the queer coming out canon.

A woozy and wonderful queer teen romance... Dylan Gelula gives a revelatory performance in a film that suggests we're in for a new wave of teen cinema." -David Ehrlich INDIEWIRE
"A sensitive exploration of sexual identity... "First Girl I Loved" is a sophisticated and complex teenage coming of age story. " -Katie Walsh THE PLAYLIST
"An earnest and sweet look at burgeoning love... First Girl I Loved never gets bogged down in melodrama. It's a kind film - heartfelt and empathetic." -Tommy Cook COLLIDER
"Dylan Gelula is - there's no other word for it - a revelation... I've never been a gay girl, or even a gay boy, but at the stirring denouement of the film, I was crying my eyes out." -Michael Dunaway PASTE
"Sexual disorientation in high school makes for movie brilliance... Sanga creatively employs a swirl of text messages, voice-overs, baseball signals and other linguistic modes to beautifully illustrate the jumble of thoughts cascading through young minds." -Peter Howell TORONTO STAR
"First Girl I Loved Plays With the Meaning of Words - and How They're Delivered ... All language, it seems, is flexible - both in the world of the film and in how it communicates with its audience. And some things are hard to put into words." -Bilge Ebiri VULTURE
