Bellbird is a 2019 New Zealand dramedy directed by Hamish Bennett (Directorial Debut), starring Marshall Napier, Annie Whittle, Cohen Holloway, Rachel House, Stephen Tamarapa, and Kahukura Retimana. It premiered in June last year in the Official Competition of the Sydney Film Festival.

An explosion brings down the broadcasting station, Nichiuri TV, during the filming of the Satsuki Cup, a tournament featuring the competitive traditional card game called karuta. Caught in the bombing, young detective Conan helps childhood sweethearts Heiji and Kazuha make a narrow escape from the collapsing building. Meanwhile, the reigning Satsuki Cup champion has been found murdered in his Kyoto residence. As if there wasn’t enough happening, karuta player Momiji appears unannounced and announces that she is Heiji’s fiancé?!
